ROOKIE HOMEWORK: TUESDAY 1/8/13

NOTE:  During this next trimester we will be focusing more on READING FLUENCY and COMPREHENSION.  It is critical that the students read daily, increasing their reading time from 5-10 minutes per night to 10-15 minutes per night.  The reading will prove most effective if they read aloud.  We will also be focusing more on SUBTRACTION...please continue to have students work on traditional addition and subtraction math facts.

OPEN HOUSE INVITATION

Dear Big M.A.C. Families,

Our Open House/Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2012.  The Open House, for our Big M.A.C. classroom, will begin at 6:00 P.M. until 6:45 P.M.

                                                                                          Mrs. Wilson and Mr. C.

DAILY SNACK @ 9:45

AUGUST 22, 2012

Dear Big M.A.C. Families,

Due to our constant strive toward health and wellness we would like to encourage all students to drink water, and have a healthy snack during the day.  Please send a healthy snack each day for your child to have as a mid-morning snack.  We have drinking fountains in the school; however, students are allowed to bring water bottles.  Please try, as best as possible, to send snacks students can manage themselves.  Try to avoid snacks that need cutting, microwaving, big clean-ups, etc.  Some great snacks include:  fruit, dry cereal, crackers, veggies, etc.  We do have some food allergies, so we ask that you NEVER send foods made from, containing PEANUTS, and/or TREE NUTS OF ANY KIND.

P.S.  As a result from the heat, water bottles tend to sweat more than usual, if you could also provide a cover for the water bottle, it would help as well.  A sock works extremely well as a water bottle cover.

Thank you,

Mrs. Wilson and Mr. C.

Welcome to the BIG M.A.C. 2012-2013

8/22/12
Dear Big M.A.C. Families,
We would like to welcome you and your child to an exciting year with the 1-2 Multi-Age class, better known as the Big M.A.C.  We are looking forward to continuing relationships with our “Veteran” families, and building new ones with our “Rookie” families.

This will be year filled with new themes and curricula.  Our Social Studies program is divided by unit, and we will begin our first unit discussing People and Places. The remaining Social Studies themes are:  Places Near and Far, America’s Government, People at Work, America’s Past, and Ways of Living.  Science is divided into three sections; Physical, Earth, and Life.  This year’s themes are: Sink and Float, Rocks/Soil/Fossils, and the Life Cycle of Butterflies, with some discussions centered on Health and Wellness.  We will periodically take field trips that work in conjunction with both Social Studies and Science.  We are also very excited about continuing with our reading curriculum!  This is a contemporary program geared toward diverse learning styles and differentiation, with a focus on centers for small group instruction.  We will also be continuing to work on Everyday Math, where we use day-to-day situations to reinforce math concepts, skills, and problem solving.

Here in the Big M.A.C. we use “Veterans,” for our second graders, and “Rookies,” for our first graders.  We will send a “Specials schedule,” listing the days when we have:  P.E., Art, Music, Library, and F.L.E.S./Spanish for both Rookies and Veterans.

There is an important informational component survey, please take some time to fill it out, and return it to school by September 7th.

The RED folder is for homework and communication.  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Initial correspondence can be sent via the red folder, email:  cwilson@op97.org, or mchildress@op97.org, or by contacting the office:  708-524-3110.  We look forward to this exciting year, and seeing you during our Open House Curriculum Night, on Thursday, August 30th.

                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                            C. Wilson and M. Childress
